The Sheffield Wednesday club in the English Championship, which is in crisis, is currently at the bottom of the English Championship with -6 points after being put into administration and automatically deducted 12 points. The Guardian reports that the club's crisis is far from over and they could face two further points deductions this season.
The reason is that Sheffield Wednesday have failed to pay wages on time five times in the past seven months. Unpaid wages in March and May of last season will first face an independent committee's adjudication, while unpaid wages in June, July and September of this season are expected to result in new charges and points deductions.
The club's financial situation is dire and it is currently subject to five financial bans. Sheffield Wednesday are banned from paying any transfer fees until the summer of 2027 due to a second breach of late payment rules.
