Wolves official news, Rob Edwards became the new head coach of the Wolves and signed a three-and-a-half-year contract to start his fourth club career.

The former Wolves defender has performed well in management in recent years, leading Forest Green Rovers and Luton Town to promotion to League One and Premier League respectively, and leading Middlesbrough to a good start at the beginning of this season.

Edwards was born in Telford and first became associated with Wolves in 2004. He played 111 times for the team in four seasons, mainly as a central defender, when the coach was McCarthy.

Edwards made 15 appearances for Wales before playing for Blackpool (where he helped the team gain promotion to the Premier League as a player) and Barnsley. In 2014, he began coaching the Wolves U18 team. A year later, he became first-team coach under Kenny Jackett and briefly succeeded Walter Zenga in October 2016, taking charge of the first team for two games on an interim basis.

After experiencing high-level management for the first time at AFC Telford United, Edwards returned to Wolves again as the U23 head coach and led the team to the highest level of youth football league for the first time. He subsequently worked as a coach with the English Football Association and led Forest Green Rovers to win the League Two Championship in 2022, his first trophy as a senior coach. Afterwards, he briefly coached at Watford. At Luton Town, Edwards coached in the Premier League for the first time, successfully leading the team through the Championship play-offs in May 2023 and receiving favorable reviews in the top league. Now Edwards returns to Wolves after guiding Middlesbrough to a strong start to the season, leaving them second in the Championship.

Jeff Shi said: "I know Edwards very well and I have seen him grow in different positions. He is a very good person, knows the club very well, is familiar with the city and the fans, and is very talented. When he served as a youth training coach here, he showed his tactical awareness, but After taking on the role of first team coach, he is starting to develop his own style, personality and leadership."

"We need to refresh the whole club with the new coach's ideas, bringing his identity and ideas, we are in a new chapter for the club and Rob will be a key part of that. Ring."

Matt Jackson said: "Rob and his team have proven before that they can change the culture very well, quickly improve the confidence of the players and lay the foundation for a positive future. He loves to work on the field, change the team and adapt to the tactics of different situations. It shows on the pitch. We have to be realistic about where we are and we have to take responsibility. We now need to quickly instill confidence in the players that Rob will do a great job in terms of the culture of the football club as a whole."

Edwards will join the club alongside assistant coach Harry Watling. Watling spent nine years working in youth football and gained managerial experience at Hartford Athletic and Ebbsfleet United in the United States last year before joining Edwards' team at Middlesbrough. Additional behind-the-scenes staff will be confirmed in the near future.
