Official news from the Scottish Premier League Glasgow Rangers, the team hired 36-year-old German coach Danny Rohr as the team's new head coach, signing a two-and-a-half-year contract. It was previously reported that Harbor boss Muscat was close to taking over at Rangers.
Official announcement:
Rangers Football Club today officially appointed Danny Rohr as the head coach of the men's first team.
Rohr previously coached Sheffield Wednesday and has now signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with Rangers. The length of the contract can be extended depending on performance.
Rohr's coaching career started at Red Bull Leipzig, and then assisted Ralph Hasenhüttl in the Premier League Southampton. In 2019, he became the assistant coach of Bayern Munich and worked with head coach Flick to win the Bundesliga, German Cup and Champions League in his first season. The following year Bayern successfully defended the Bundesliga title and won the European Super Cup, German Super Cup and Club World Cup. During the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Rohr will take charge of the German national team with Flick.
In October 2023, Rohr was appointed as an independent coach for the first time and took over Sheffield Wednesday, which had no win in 11 rounds of the English Championship and was ranked bottom. Amid numerous challenges, he not only successfully led the team to avoid relegation, but also led the team to a 12th place finish last season.
From now on, Rohr will officially take charge of the Rangers coach. His debut will be against Bran in the Europa League on Thursday.
It was previously reported that Muscat was close to coaching the Rangers, but he insisted on leading the Harbor team until the end of the season. It ultimately fell through because it was difficult to accept the Rangers' recruitment model.
