According to the English Football Association rulebook, a player must be at least 17 years old to sign a professional contract, provided that the player no longer receives a full-time education.
It is also worth noting that the maximum contract period that a 17-year-old player can sign is 3 years, and the contract is concluded and registered must be completed with written consent from the player's parents or legal guardian.
Currently, Engumoha is working under a standard apprenticeship contract with a monthly salary of £1,200, and he will turn 17 by the end of this month, when he will sign his first career contract.
Liverpool currently has a cap on first-team rookies, with a basic annual salary of about £52,000, but the contract includes high bonus incentive clauses to ensure that players' progress can get corresponding returns.
After signing Ngumoha from Chelsea, Liverpool insisted that the club did not break the salary structure because of players. However, it is generally believed that once Ngumoha turns 17, he will receive a generous contract.
