Maresca: We are helping Lavia get rid of injuries and become healthy like Reese James

Maresca was interviewed a few days ago. He believed that Lavia could follow Reese James' footsteps, recover from multiple injuries, and play an important role in Chelsea.

Lavia has suffered a series of injuries since signing with the Blues in the summer of 2023. But he played 22 games last season and returned from the bench against Brighton after suffering muscle problems in the Club World Cup.

Maresca confirmed that the Belgian midfielder could play against Liverpool, but stressed the importance of cautiously managing the 21-year-old's return to the field to avoid a recurrence of the past.

Maresca said: "Lavia is ready to play, and for him, we are trying to do exactly the same thing as when dealing with Fofana and Rees James."

"They are both much better at the moment, and unfortunately, Fofana is unable to play at the moment, but it's not because of any physical problems, it's just that he suffered a concussion against Lincoln City."

"The goal for Lavia is to help him and get back to the same state as Fofana and Rees James, and be able to play normally."

"You can see that Rees James can play more games without any problems, and hopefully we can do the same thing with Lavia."
