Former player: Liverpool should pay whatever fee Crystal Palace demands and make every effort to sign Gueye in the winter window

Former Liverpool midfielder Don Hutchinson says Liverpool missed the opportunity to sign Crystal Palace captain Gueye. He believes that Guey is a must-sign player for the Reds in the winter window.

Hutchinson said: "They completely missed the opportunity to sign him, 100 per cent. I mean, I really want to be a fly and see why Liverpool failed to sign Gueye in the first place."

"Let's say Crystal Palace wants £45 million. Liverpool should give them £50 million because they will have Gueye for six years. They should just pay."

"When I compare Liverpool to Arsenal , I see two real men in Calafio and Timber, two people who won't be bullied."

"So you have four centre-backs, and then you have Konate, Van Dijk, Bradley and Gueye at left-back, and you think, wow, that's a well-rounded squad."

"Liverpool should just pay whatever Crystal Palace asks for. Bad decision. They were hell-bent on signing Isaac. I understand because you can't turn down an opportunity like that, but Gueye should be another priority. "If they want to get into the top four, then this is the key moment for Gueye because in the summer, I think he will have options and those options may be more attractive to him and his family."

Regarding Konat, who will also become a free agent next summer, Hutchinson said: "I will keep Konat from now until the end of the season, because in case Van Dijk is injured, or Guey is injured after signing, he is a good substitute."

"If Guey switches to left back, you still need Konat. I will keep him until the summer. If he wants to leave on a free transfer, then Liverpool will have several players who can try to replace him."
